Drought risk in Kédougou is manifested by the combination of a climatic phenomenon and local vulnerability that amplify its impacts on agriculture and livelihoods. Indeed, data from Think Hazard indicate that a water shortage, a direct consequence of marked variability in rainfall and rising temperatures, could occur with a probability of around 20% over the next ten years. Furthermore, the study by (Boissy et al., 2024) highlights that the degradation of vegetation cover, due in particular to intensive agricultural practices and mining expansion, weakens soils and reduces their water retention capacity, thus increasing the vulnerability of local systems.
