Cultivated and densely populated areas in the Kédougou region are particularly vulnerable to drought due to the intense pressure on water resources and soil quality. In this area, intensive agriculture, often practiced without appropriate rotations or soil conservation measures, leads to a degradation of soil structure and a reduction in its moisture retention capacity. At the same time, high population density increases water demand for domestic and agricultural uses, which, combined with increasingly erratic rainfall patterns due to climate change, exacerbates water stress.
